Google Rebranded G Suite as Google Workspace, Integrates Productivity Apps
G Suite formerly known as Google Apps for business is no more. The tech giant is rebranding the Cloud-based productivity apps G Suite to Google Workspace in an effort to bring the best out of Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Slides, Meet, and more.
What is Google Workspace?
Google Workspace is similar to G Suite, all the plans provide a custom business email and include communication and collaboration tools like Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, Chat, Docs, Forms, Sites, Slides, Sheets, and more. For more details, visit Google Workspace plans and pricing page.
In a recent blog post, Javier Soltero, says he hopes the new collaboration experience will help businesses collaborate more effectively. As part of the new user interface, Google Workspace will allow users to dynamically create and collaborate on a document within a room in Chat, without switching tabs or tools. That’s not the only update, though. You’ll now also be able to preview linked files directly in Docs, Sheets, and Slides without having to open a new tab. Google is also giving you the ability to easily @mention someone in a document — similarly to how the feature works in Gmail.
Each time you do that, a smart chip will show the user’s contact details and offer suggestions like reaching out to that individual via communication options like chat, email, or video.
Google first began playing around with the integrated experience a few weeks back when it started fusing Tasks, Drive, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Slides with Gmail. It also launched out a picture-in-picture solution that made it possible to video-call someone from Gmail.
Google Workspace Pricing Plans
Below are the pricing plans offered by Google Workspace for Small-medium business & enterprises:
- Business Starter Plan is the entry-level plan for SMB’s that has less than 300 users. The price starts at ₹125/user/month.
- Business Standard is the most popular plan for businesses that offer 2 TB cloud storage and support for larger meetings. The price starts at ₹672/user/month.
- Business Plus is a fresh plan with more enhanced capabilities and 5 TB Cloud storage. This plan costs ₹1260/user/month & includes additional security features and compliance tools like Google Vault and mobile device management features.
- Business Enterprise: Business with more than 300 employees that require device management & enterprise-grade security, additional admin features, administrative controls, and compliance features.
This reason behind the rebranding of G Suite to Google Workspace is to give much closer competition with Microsoft 365, but it yet to be seen if Google Workspace can cut into Microsoft subscriber base. The new Google Workspace plans are already available to all new customers.
